If you are looking to fertilise your soil without using artifical chemical feeds there are a number of wildflowers that can help. Birds Foot Trefoil, Sainfoin and Red Clover are perfect to plant. We are currently selling plugs to add to your lawn or an area you want to make wild. Varieties such as Red Clover, Selfheal, Chamomile and Creeping Thyme will add colour and fragrance. The benefit of a wild lawns is it is self-fertilising, and is resilient during both prolonged dry and wet periods. To help increase the food supply for pollintors with the abundant supply of flowers for bees, wild lawns can be cut on a high setting about once a month.

Meadow clary, also know as saliva pratensis, is a rare wild wildflower which we stock at Brownes. It is a hardy, drought-tolerant and low-maintenance perennial that thives in sunny, chalky or limestone soils. It is a perfect pollinator for your garden being rich in pollen and nectar for bees, butterflies and has many benefits for the much needed insects in our gardens.

We encourage companion planting in your vegetable plot with UK wildflowers, these along with varieties such as borage, nasturtiums and calendulas help to keep a balanced ecosystem.  They encourage pollinators, and insect predators to keep pests at bay.
